Review: Hitec Spectra AFHSS 2.4GHz receiver and Optima 7 module (part 1)

Part 1: a first-look at the Hitec Spectra 2.4GHz AFHSS spread spectrum system from Hitec.

This video gives a quick overview and asks why Hitec’s system only uses about half of the available 2.4GHz band, while others such as Futaba FASST use the entire band.

See part 2 for a demonstration of the “scan mode” and how it can effectively sidestep other signals on the 2.4GHz band, such as video transmitters. This might make the system perfect for those who enjoy FPV flying.

I think you may be …
I think you may be right. I’m going to try and “split” the piece of band by placing a string signal right in the middle to see if scan mode will result in the AFHSS using a piece on either side. I strongly suspect that it won’t.

    Maybe the hardware …
Maybe the hardware has a fixed band width with or without “scan mode”, and it was easy to shift but not change the width.

    It looks like it …
It looks like it uses less than half of the 2.4GHz band, maybe a third of it. Nice and informative video Bruce, keep them coming.
