I was able to obtain a prototype of the STRAC Technologies FAST System to demo for you guys. This video is meant to show a raw first usage example of the system rather than being a perfect highlight reel.

This looks pretty …
This looks pretty cool in motion. Pity it’s pricey…this thing retails in the 2009-10 Brownells Catalog(page 37) for 339.99 plus shipping and, if you live in IN or IA, sales tax. Still if you have the dough, looks like a good investment.

Yeah, I remember a …
Yeah, I remember a BARE MINIMUM of 7 magazines. 6 in pouches, and one in the mag well.

This is a specialty …
This is a specialty product made for those where speed is more important than capacity. Also keep in mind the other side of the body can still carry many magazines with traditional pouches.

Sorry, I went thru …
Sorry, I went thru basic trianing in the 80’s..but …why so few mags being carried?…I can recall no less than 3-4 x 3 mag carriers on each side?

Polenar, what if …
Polenar, what if you are in the meddle of a open field and you have on cover. A good volume of fire can be achieved by a fast reloads in that sort of environment. Especially in a emergency!
October 15th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
Because almost all …
Because almost all reloads are done in cover, there is no need for such a fast reload so i would also use a bit slower but more practical conventional magazine pouches.
In my opinion, if you are in the open and your magazine is empty, the only sane thing is to get your pistol and get in cover ASAP!
But i can imagine that this system could be useful for sport shooting such as IPSC or maybe for special forces on specific operations.

This reload system …
This reload system is only useful when not in cover and need to supress the enemy quickly with massive fire power from one or two men with rifles.

I’m not worried …
I’m not worried about the noise since I’m reloading in the middle of a firefight. I’m not worried about the mechanics as it’s a pretty simple spring, less complicated than the actual mags. Kind of bulky for just three mags though. My biggest complaint. I think I’d rather have 6 slower reloads in that space personally.
October 15th, 2009 at 6:19 pm
If your counting …
If your counting milliseconds I guess this would help. If the pouch carried more it might help but I really don’t see a big advantage to this because most shooters would shoot from cover giving them time to reload and if they are moving from cover to cover they make sure to have plenty of ammo in their mag.

MilspecMonkey, if …
MilspecMonkey, if you can, make a video comparing this system against regular pouch loading to see if its worth the loss of real estate/Bulkiness compared to regular AR pouch loading. Would be greatly appreciated.

Seems interesting, but I don’t really trust mechanical like that. Makes too much noise too. Looks promising though. This has to be the only tactical niche product that isn’t completely stupid.
