I just got a Sony STR-DG720 7.1 channel receiver. I also just

got a Insignia-5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System. This

is my first surround setup Ive ever had so im not so sure how to

use it. I hooked everything up, the speakers to the receiver and

the sub woofer to the receiver. I Hooked my Time Warner HD

Cable Box up by HDMI to the Receiver and My Playstation 3 by

HDMI to the receiver. The receiver is connected through HDMI

to my TV. Tv sounds great, all of the speakers work and the sub

woofer is very powerful. When I use the Playstation 3 however i

get perfect sound from all of the speakers but the sub woofer

does not function at all. Somebody please help me out. Thanks
Daniel, my speakers and sub are connected to a receiver, and you can use surround sound on a playstation 3 with HDMI you dont have to use optical because my Reciever processes audio/visual through HDMI

You need to connect your PS3 to a receiver where the speakers and subwoofer is connected. You cannot connect the speakers/subwoofer directly to the PS3.

The PS3 comes with an optical audio connection which is required if you want to get surround sound (and thumping bass) from your PS3.

It is possible to get surround systems for about $150-200, but I can’t really say they’re that good… Just be sure the system you get comes with a RECEIVER – not one of those cheap DVD players with the speakers directly attached to it. Those don’t have any additional inputs.

We just bought a new Home Theater system yesterday (because the last one we owned only had basic Left Right audio entries.) However when I connected the Coaxial Audio cable from my DVD player to the home theater receiver, I can hear the noise, except it sounds like if it skips. The sound just comes out like in pauses with a very brief pause constantly.. almost like a pulse sound. When I tried my normal TV using the Left Right (Red/White) audio cables the sound sounds perfect, also with all the other sources. This problem is only with the Coaxial Audio input.

I don’t know if this would have anything to do with it, but since we just got the system, I haven’t had time to set it up around our living room, so I only have the speakers ligned up on the floor with a couple inches within each other.

Could it be the cable that’s bad?(even though it came brand new with the home theater)

Quick troubleshoot:
1) Try another dvd (if you haven’t already)
2) Use another RCA cable to temporarily replace the coaxial digital audio cable, and test your setup. (Yes, a ‘standard’ RCA cable can pass digital audio data).
Fix your problem? then find a permanent replacement cable

Problem still occurring? Then use the DVD player setup menu for digital audio output settings. Certain receivers do not play well with PCM vs. bitstream digital audio signals – or vice-versa. Refer to your manuals about these settings.

NOTE in addition to coax or optical digital audio connections, connect the analog stereo audio cables too. Many receivers use a "auto-polling" feature in the event of signal loss; it will automatically search for an analog signal if digital is dropped.

I purchased a Sony Bravia 52" LCD HDTV and a Bose 3-2-1 GS series III home theater system. Last night I hooked up the system. But somethings not right! I hooked up everything as the directions described. From the TV I connected a HDMI cable to the HD DVR cable box, next I connected a HDMI cable from the Bose system to the TV. Then I connected a stereo audio cable (red and White connector) from the HD DVR (audio out) to the Bose media center (audio in). This is how the directions described, but I can’t get the TV sound through the Bose? Do I need a Optical Digital cable? Are my connections correct? and also how do I tweak my new TV, i.e. make the picture perfect. It seems not to be bright and clear as was my older Poloroid 37" LCD HDTV (the replacement TV). PLEASE any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Bob

You need to have one HDMI cable from the cable box to the Bose. This will pass the audio to the SIMULATED surround sound system. Then you need to have an HDMI cable from the Bose to the TV to send the video. If the Bose doesn’t pass video (or passes only standard definition video), then you can send it directly to the TV, but that would require splitting the cable signal. I’m not sure if this can even be done.

I hope you got the Bose cheap, because you can get a much better 5.1 (rather than simulated) surround sound system *and* a Blu-ray player for about the same price.

As far as your picture goes, tweak the video settings. It’s possible the old TV’s contrast and brightness were cranked up.

I just bought a home theater system yesterday and everything works perfect on it. I used it to watch a movie last night and everything functioned including the wireless speakers. But the only thing is that the speakers do not go on when I put regular TV on and the speakers don’t go on when I switch to my Xbox 360 or ps3. It is just the speaker from the tv that works. I set up the system correctly by using the manual. But I was wondering what could be the problem here. I don’t know why the surround sound only works on VIDEO and not AUX.

thanks

Most tv programs are in stereo and you will not get surround if in stereo. If the tv program states it is in dolby surround then you will get the rest of your speaker system to work. How is your XBOX 360 hook up to the home theater, what type of cable and which input did you use in the home theater. You should have a selector switch of some kind on your home theater for Dolby Digital, Dolby Prologic etc.. Select one of this modes when playing your XBOX. You have to use optical or coax cable to get surround sound from your XBOX, instead of 2 RCA jacks (red and white). Hope this will help you.

Thanks guys. I’ll change my game plan.
How do I know if the amp is included in the enclosure?

How to know if the amp is included? Simple, it will have a power cord to be plugged into the wall outlet. It will have something that looks a bit like this on the back of the box… http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-784

In fact if you’re the hand sort, you can assemble your own and save money… http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults.cfm?srchExt=CAT&srchCat=536

Letter to the editor by Prof. Israel Shahak (survivor)
published on 19 May 1989 in Kol Ha’ir, Jerusalem.

I disagree with the opinion of Haim Baram that the Israeli education system has managed to instil a "Holocaust awareness" in its pupils (Kol Ha’Ir 12.5.89). It’s not an awareness of the Holocaust but rather the myth of the Holocaust or even a falsification of the Holocaust (in the sense that "a half-truth is worse than a lie") which has been instilled here.

As one who himself lived through the Holocaust, first in Warsaw then in Bergen-Belsen, I will give an immediate example of the total ignorance of daily life during the Holocaust. In the Warsaw ghetto, even during the period of the first massive extermination (June to October 1943), one saw almost no German soldiers. Nearly all the work of administration, and later the work of transporting hundreds of thousands of Jews to their deaths, was carried out by Jewish collaborators. Before the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (the planning of which only started after the extermination of the majority of Jews in Warsaw), the Jewish underground killed, with perfect justification, every Jewish collaborator they could find. If they had not done so the Uprising could never have started. The majority of the population of the Ghetto hated the collaborators far more than the German Nazis. Every Jewish child was taught, and this saved the lives of some of them "if you enter a square from which there are three exits, one guarded by a German SS man, one by an Ukrainian and one by a Jewish policeman, then you should first try to pass the German, and then maybe the Ukrainian, but never the Jew".

One of my own strongest memories is that, when the Jewish underground killed a despicable collaborator close to my home at the end of February 1943, I danced and sang around the still bleeding corpse together with the other children. I still do not regret this, quite the contrary.

It is clear that such events were not exclusive to the Jews, the entire Nazi success in easy and continued rule over millions of people stemmed from the subtle and diabolical use of collaborators, who did most of the dirty work for them. But does anybody now know about this? This, and not what is "instilled" was the reality. Of the Yad Vashem (official state Holocaust museum in Jerusalem — Ed.) theatre, I do not wish to speak at all. It, and its vile exploiting, such as honouring South Africa collaborators with the Nazis are truly beneath contempt.

Therefore, if we knew a little of the truth about the Holocaust, we would at least understand (with or without agreeing) why the Palestinians are now eliminating their collaborators. That is the only means they have if they wish to continue to struggle against our limb-breaking regime.

Kind regards,

[Israel Shahak]

http://www.ety.com/HRP/jewishstudies/crimesgermanocc.htm

It says they hated them more than the Germans, it doesn’t say they feared them more.

And did you miss this part?

"It is clear that such events were not exclusive to the Jews…"

Nobody likes a traitor. No matter what religion they practice or what ethnicity they are.

Peace.

Question to experts.. I have recently upgraded my DVD player to Sony blue-ray. It has ethernet connection, and I opted for powerplug (which transmits signal over the power line) to connect it to my router. The connection is perfect and I can whatch streaming HD, however there is this issue with my home theater 5.1 speakers. Everytime something’s downloading, it produces annoying cracking noise in the speakers. I have tried several filters, including Belkin Pure AV, and Tacima CS929 filter surge – no effect. This is really disappointing, as I can’t for stream multimedia and enjoy nice sound – it has to be through TV speakers, then it is fine.

The home theater speakers that I have I quite basic and pretty old, the brand is TCM – it’s similar to Silvercrest brand being sold via Lidl network. One of the potential problems that I can think of – this system has no grounding in the wiring, the power plug has only two connectors (I bought it in Germany). However I am not sure what can I do with it… Any experts here?

From the info you supplied, it is unlikely that the interference is coming from the actual line because the connection according to you is ‘perfect’ and no interference when using the TV. It sounds as if the powerplug when it is actively downloading may be emitting RF which is picked up by the amplifier circuit in the speaker system. This is probably due to poor shielding which one tends to get in cheaper systems, e.g. Amstrads used to have such problems. Try shielding either the speakers or the plug, or try a more expensive system. If you don’t get any crackling, it is definitely down to the speakers.

I have a non-powered sub and I need to hook it up to my 7.1 surround system. I want to combing the 6th and 7th channel to = the perfect amount of wattage but cancel out all the highs, leaving the bass only. Are there any adapters that don’t use RCA’s?

That’s an interesting thought but there really isn’t any way to do it. Years ago it was common for receivers to have "preamp loops" which in those days were frequently used to insert processing like graphic equalizers. These days however few if any receivers have preamp loops on even the main channels let alone the surround channels. If loops were still common then you might have a shot but given the design goals of modern receivers there just isn’t any way to do it.

Some receivers can utilize unused surround channel amplifiers as additional main speaker amplifiers for bi-amp purposes. If your receiver can do this then it might be possible to use one of those channels (you can’t bridge "combine" them) to power your subwoofer but this would require a passive crossover and would not be very efficient.

Unfortunately there really just isn’t any good way to do what you are wanting to do. The best thing will be to get a subwoofer amplifier from Parts Express and use the RCA sub output to connect to that amplifier or if you don’t have the RCA output then some subwoofer amplifiers can extract a subwoofer ".1" from the main speaker output of your receiver without impacting the total impedance load on those channels. Actually it does but it’s something like 10,000 ohms in parallel with your 8 ohm speakers which results in something like 7.999 ohms. That’s going to be about your only option I’m afraid. Basically you are converting your passive sub into an active sub.

I would like to play music view photos watch movies off of a portable hard drive that is compatible with the Samsung home cinema range that do have a usb feature. I know that the storage device has to be less than 160GB, a USB Powered one, it has to be a FAT file system on it, and it cant be used with a USB hub extension And it Does not support a device that requires installing a separate driver on the PC (Windows). Can anyone suggest the perfect storage device PLEASE?

FAT – You need to reformat the hard drive from NTFS to FAT system. Easy to do.
Most HDD do not need a driver. Try older ones.

Hi, im having issues with my xbox 360 (new slim version) keeping audio/video in sync between my TV and Panasonic surround sound system.

Details~

I have my xbox 360 hooked into my tv LG HDTV (Model # 47LH30) via HDMI. I then have my Panasonic home theater system (Model # SA-BT230) connected directly to my xbox 360 via optical cable. The problem is not apparent at first as the audio and video are in perfect sync. Its odd because over the course of maybe 1 to 2 hours the audio slowly drifts out of sync to about half a second behind the video.

Initially I thought this to be a setting on the Panasonic itself so upon reviewing the manual I made some changes. The main change that I made was changing the audio delay setting from Auto to 0MS thinking that would solve the problem. Sadly it didnt work. I’ve been to several websites/forums/support chats to solve this issue but nothing concrete has turned up.

I could understand if it was a little behind at a constant rate but it starts out fine and the sync progressively gets worse. Power cycling the Panasonic seems to fix this but it is far from acceptable having to do this just to enjoy my surround sound.

It should also be noted that I had the exact same problem with a Panasonic SA-bt200 model. Upon making similar changes nothing worked either so I went online to find that several other users online had a similar problem with this exact unit. Thinking it was a fault with the unit I took it back and brought home the newer model expecting it to be in working order. The problem is not as severe on the newer model but its definately unacceptable.

I have fought with both of these systems for hours and im starting to think that I should just ditch the Panasonic systems altogether and get an LG to go with my TV. I’ve also tried this with another xbox only to have the same issue.

I know this issue seems minor but audio being out of sync is one of those things that just drives me crazy so ANY help to alleviate this issue would be greatly appreciated. I’ve fought and fought with this thing to the point that tossing it out the window seems a much less stressful solution to fixing it . Sorry if the message is a little disjointed and the grammar is terrible. I typed this up in a hurry and tried to cram all the details I possibly could.

I look forward to any possible solutions I can get to fix this! Thanks for your time.

GET RID OF THE PANASONIC they are not a good brand and the optical out is just for enhancing
the treble and mid range get a jvc model th-g31 about 250$ i have this same jvc Surround system
and let me tell you it is the best sound for that price range
