If Karma is designed to show a person the error of their ways, then why do people suffer at the hands of an evildoer when they would never have done such a thing themselves?
The person who would not harm a fly is beaten up.
The man who would never steal is robbed.
It seems as if the lesson is already learned by the time the person gets the suffering.
Should it not be that the thief is stolen from, the brute is beaten up?
No, Karma is not a system of retribution, it is a learning aid.
A Loving Being doesn’t visit retribution upon It’s children.
Karma is a part of the illusion. In truth we are still exactly
as God created us – Perfect. But our belief in this illusion
makes it real for us. Nothing that goes on in the illusion
is created by God, but we need to awaken to that truth.
We think some things are good and some things are evil. Not so.
We think we can sin against God. That’s impossible. God is
Invulnerable – nothing can touch Him/It. What we call good and evil
is all part of the illusion and God has not bought into our dream world.
So Karma is part of the illusion and is designed to help us return
to our heavenly state with our Creator. We need to remember that
we are One with God and our fellow man.
If in a prior life we were unkind to our fellow man, if we harmed or killed
some one, we may need to experience a similar situation. I think 2
things govern that. One is Karma and the other is expectations.
We may not deserve a beating at the hands of another based on past deeds,
but we see our fellow man as mean, nasty, unkind and corrupt and we are
creating those conditions in our experience. We invite it. Some would
call that instant karma.
Look at this aspect: in earth school, every lesson that every person needs
is here. If some are in a position of peace – they will find peace here.
If they need wars – they will find it here. If they need Genius – they will
find it here. But to provide these varied lessons, some souls must step
to the plate and play a very nasty part – like Hitler. Like today’s terrorists.
That is a rough role to accept. It is needed. They are not sinners since
it is a teaching lesson to help us awaken. God loves all His children equally.
Karma doesn’t exist, it is just a comforting lie people make up when someone fucks them over. So they believe that somewhere there is some kind of ultimate cosmic justice, sorry there isn’t. Life isn’t fair and that is the way it is, but some people can’t accept that.

Karma is not retribution. Karma is the balancing of energy. In the cycle of reincarnation, a spirit will CHOOSE to experience in one life what they caused another to experience in another life. It’s about experience and balance, not punishment.

Karma system is more broader than that. If you get beaten up (suffer) though u don’t hurt a fly then it’s the result of your past deeds. Look I don’t know if you believe in reincarnations or not. But Karma is based upon reincarnation.
And the actual meaning of Karma is "Deeds" (It’s not a system). Never mind though.

The whole concept of Karma is a wonderful theory but like all the other wondrful theories I’ve ever encountered in my life there are nastly things called "facts" that keep messing them up. If you love a theory for it’s elegance and beauty it’s a very good idea not to look too closely at the evidence.

Karma isn’t about the little pissy event of this life.
Karma is earned by how well you fulfill your Dharma – how well you do what you are supposed to do this life. If you incarnated to be a warrior, were you brave, honorable, etc? If you incarnated to be a demon, then were you doing the destruction you incarnated to do? A warrior being honorable or a demon being destructive BOTH incur ‘good karma’.
And having ‘good karma’, they would incarnate ‘well’ in their next life. Incarnating well means life closer and closer to incarnating in a life where they can devote themselves to spiritual pursuits only, thus being able to reach enlightenment in that life.

Karma is not a perfect system or retribution. As a consequence of Karma, Hindus tend to be fatalistic. They believe that one’s present status and condition is the result of a previous existence and is therefore deserved, whether good or bad. The Hindu can try to establish a better record so that the next existence might be more bearable. Thus, he more readily accepts his lot in life than does a Westerner. The Hindu sees it all as the outworking of the law of cause and effect in relation to his prior existence. It is the principle of reaping what you have sown in a supposed former existence. All of this, of course, is based on the premise that man has an immortal soul that passes on to another life, whether that be as a human, an animal, or a vegetable.
So, what is the ultimate aim in the Hindu faith? To achieve moksha, which means liberation, or release, from the grinding wheel of rebirths and different existences. Therefore, it is an escape from embodied existence, not for the body, but for the “soul.” “Since moksha, or release from the long series of incarnations, is the goal of every Hindu, the biggest event in his life is really his death,” states one commentator. Moksha can be achieved by following the different margas, or ways.
Yes, man is to blame for much of his misery. Since the soul is not immortal, however, the law of ‘reaping what you sow’ cannot be used to connect human suffering to a karma—deeds of a supposed previous life. “He who has died has been acquitted from his sin,” states the Bible. (Romans 6:7, 23) Thus the fruitage of sin is not carried over to a life after death.

Indeed, karma works. The thief steals from himself. Karma is ours and not ours. It can be seen in the serenity prayer of alcoholic’s anonymous: accepting the things I cannot change, having courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. I hope this answer helps.

Good question… I like Free at Last’s response and would add the following:
"And as the infinite can never be manifested, hence the finite world has to be satisfied with the shadow alone, which its actions draw upon humanity and which men attract and force to activity. Hence, while it is the universal Cause in its unmanifested unity and infinity, the Astral light becomes, with regard to Mankind, simply the effects of the causes produced by men in their sinful lives. It is not its bright denizens — whether they are called Spirits of Light or Darkness — that produce Good or Evil, but mankind itself that determines the unavoidable action and reaction in the great magic agent. It is mankind which has become the “Serpent of Genesis,” and thus causes daily and hourly the Fall and sin of the “Celestial Virgin” — which thus becomes the Mother of gods and devils at one and the same time; for she is the ever-loving, beneficent deity to all those who stir her Soul and heart, instead of attracting to themselves her shadowy manifested essence, called by Eliphas Levi — “the fatal light” which kills and destroys. Humanity, in its units, can overpower and master its effects; but only by the holiness of their lives and by producing good causes. It has power only on the manifested lower principles — the shadow of the Unknown and Incognizable Deity in Space. But in antiquity and reality, Lucifer, or Luciferus, is the name of the angelic Entity presiding over the light of truth as over the light of the day. In the great Valentinian gospel Pistis Sophia (§ 361) it is taught that of the three Powers emanating from the Holy names of the Three [[Tridunameis]], that of Sophia (the Holy Ghost according to these gnostics — the most cultured of all), resides in the planet Venus or Lucifer.
Thus to the profane, the Astral Light may be God and Devil at once —

* Says Johannes Tritheim, the Abbot of Spanheim, the greatest astrologer and Kabalist of his day: — “The art of divine magic consists in the ability to perceive the essence of things in the light of nature (astral light), and by using the soul-powers of the spirit to produce material things from the unseen universe, and in such operations the Above and the Below must be brought together and made to act harmoniously. The spirit of Nature (astral light) is a unity, creating and forming everything, and acting through the instrumentality of man it may produce wonderful things. Such processes take place according to law. You will learn the law by which these things are accomplished, if you learn to know yourself. You will know it by the power of the spirit that is in yourself, and accomplish it by mixing your spirit with the essence that comes out of yourself. If you wish to succeed in such a work you must know how to separate Spirit and Life in Nature, and, moreover, to separate the astral soul in yourself and to make it tangible, and then the substance of the soul will appear visibly and tangibly rendered objective by the power of the spirit.” — (Quoted in Dr. Hartman’s “Paracelsus.”)

Demon est Deus inversus: that is to say, through every point of Infinite Space thrill the magnetic and electrical currents of animate Nature, the life-giving and death-giving waves, for death on earth becomes life on another plane. Lucifer is divine and terrestrial light, the “Holy Ghost” and “Satan,” at one and the same time, visible Space being truly filled with the differentiated Breath invisibly; and the Astral Light, the manifested effects of the two who are one, guided and attracted by ourselves, is the Karma of humanity, both a personal and impersonal entity: personal, because it is the mystic name given by St. Martin to the Host of divine Creators, guides and rulers of this planet; impersonal, as the Cause and effect of universal Life and Death."

Karma is not merely what we do now or in this life, it is the accumulated effect of all the karmas of all our past lives, hence, it may be the deeds/karmas of his past lives that is incurring the ‘evil doer’ in this livfe.

There is good Karma and there is bad Karma. It isn’t a punishment. It is a harmonious balance of energies. In Creation there is the Law of balance. For ever action there is an equal reaction. At some level it just becomes as it should be, just as it must be.

I don’t know so much about karma.
I believe in the Golden Rule. I also believe we should "pay it forward".
I give unconditionally and I know the Lord God above will bless me abundantly, for any and all I do for others.
