  • The Death Penalty: How can we justify so perfect a punishment within such an imperfect system?

To Sass Says: I didn’t mean perfect as in fabulous, I mean perfect as in finite and unchangeable.

I agree with having a death penalty, if we could ensure guilt. until then, the only justification is to "save money" that would be spent imprisoning someone for life. I think that argument is a little too NAZI. killing people because they cost society money just isn’t a healthy road to travel.

We can justify it by considering that someone who has committed certain crimes actually has a "duty" to die, and to fail in that duty devalues oneself as a human being.

I’m not sure. What is so right about the death penalty? Only God has the right to end someones life. Here we are killing people to punish them for killing people. Your right, it is an imperfect system. I’ll never understand it.

my dad always said if the police catch a killer in the act of killing someone then shoot them on the spot and save millions of dollars, on the other hand there are many who are wrongly convicted and i wonder just how many have been put to death over an inadeqate jury or prosecuter or testimony that was faked, thats a good question, i do believe in capital punishment but lets do things right,,,

What’s perfect about anything? The Death Penalty doesn’t punish the criminal as much as it does the executioner and the criminal’s family. It does have its advantages if done quickly and without hoopla, but what our system has created is the Spectacle of execution without the expediency of it. In other words, the System of Failed Systems has managed to create another Failed Subsystem to suck money and time out of the average taxpayer. Follow the money trail, and you will find the ‘justification’ for the death penalty, under the guise of ‘revenge’ or ‘protecting society’. A good society needs little protection, and revenge is a dish best served cold. Defective people should be dealt with, not paraded around and protected for decades by politicians and lawyers. If we are going to have a system, then the system needs to be implemented, operated, and maintained efficiently and properly. Once implemented and accepted by the majority of society, it doesn’t need to be second-guessed over and over. That just leads to confusion and moneygrubbing by the groups that want a ‘Cause’ to stir up sentiment for their donations. If we somehow figure out a perfect criminal justice system (which we won’t), then we can second-guess the punishment system. Until we do, we have to accept the casualties as we do in wars or education. Yes, there are just as many deaths caused by the education system as there are innocent victims executed. We just don’t acknowledge the failures of Big Teaching anymore than we acknowledge the failures of Big Business or Big Science. Everyone makes mistakes, and we have to deal with them as a thinking, pragmatic society, not as emotionally charged mobs fighting over the bread of Spectacle Worship.

hey, i am totally for the death penalty, get this,

A man has a grudge against someone, it takes him to the point were he thinks the only thing he can do is commit murder. The man instead of putting a bullet in the man’s head, he stabs him 10 times in the chest. The man suffers for 20minutes and then finally bleeds to death before the police come and after the murderer leaves. The police get the man DNA and they arrest him and bring him to court. He gets the death penalty, lethal injection. The man gets an easy pain free death when he took someone’s life after making them suffer. Seam fair?

i think the person should get the same thing done to them . they should be killed exacly how they killed the toher person. this would make the families feel alot better than just haveinbg the dude have a peacful death. anyone can e-mail me if they have any questions on my point of veiw

If you don’t like the death penalty, then what type of punishment do you think is appropriate for murderers and vicious, violent offenders?

How about we use the method other countries use, such as beating the perpatrator to death, or maybe cutting off whatever they used to commit the crime (i.e., hands, penis). What do you think about that?

What would you suggest as a deterrent for people in America to commit less crime? Any ideas?

There has to be something to make people think twice about crime, and this is what the government uses as a deterrent.

Most of the time, the person either rots in jail or never gets put in the chair.

The Death Penalty can never be justified, even if you consider it as a remedy for death crimes only. Otherwise, the State becomes precisely the kind of "person" it aims to punish. Anyway, as I see it, there is nothing perfect about the death penalty, precisely because it is ‘finite’ and ‘unchangeable’, i. e, it does not allow for the correction of errors, whether these are the accused’s or the accuser’s. And I am particularly revolted when I see some people deffending the death penalty because imprisonment is too expensive. Perhaps those people ought to think of the money which is currently being spent on war, instead.

Look at crime scene photos sometime. How can you justify letting some monster live?
