Review: Hitec Spectra AFHSS 2.4GHz receiver and Optima 7 module (part 1)

Posted by admin on February 9th, 2010 and filed under 1 perfect system | 7 Comments »

Part 1: a first-look at the Hitec Spectra 2.4GHz AFHSS spread spectrum system from Hitec.

This video gives a quick overview and asks why Hitec’s system only uses about half of the available 2.4GHz band, while others such as Futaba FASST use the entire band.

See part 2 for a demonstration of the “scan mode” and how it can effectively sidestep other signals on the 2.4GHz band, such as video transmitters. This might make the system perfect for those who enjoy FPV flying.

Caldera Ti-Tri Titanium Stove System Part 2

Posted by admin on January 25th, 2010 and filed under perfect system | 4 Comments »

After getting the caldera keg system, I knew that the Combination of Trail Design caldera with Titanium Goats input would be perfect cooking system. They match the caldera cone to just about any cooking vessel. I opted for the .9 liter stove to go with caldera, for boiling close to one liter nalgene at a time instead of multiple boil from a smaller titanium cup.The complete system includes the, 12-10 stove, Ti-Tri titanium cone, fuel bottle, measuring cup, titanium stakes for wood burning mode, the GramCracker solid fuel kit and our brand new Caldera Caddy. For an additional $15, you can get the titanium “floor” to protect the the ground during wood burning mode.

Bass Test – Demanding tracks for your system [Bass Test] 2

Posted by admin on December 12th, 2009 and filed under a perfect system | 16 Comments »

Please don’t expect any responses until the end of April as I am currently on a round the world trip.

Make sure not to turn up the volume too high on this one because it gets very busy in some areas and is generally recorded at a louder level than all of my other videos.

I tried a different tone generator this time which didn’t seem to have a volume adjust control, so there is some slight clicking at the most difficult point.

    RAPIDSHARE DOWNLOAD:
I have merged both the bass tests together and uploaded the file as a sound file only, which is in .wav format. I’ve fiddled around with a couple of the sound settings and tried to level out some areas as they were considerably louder or quieter than other parts of the video. Hopefully the final version should come out in near perfect quality, but let me know if there’s any overwhelming distortion.

General abuse of my sound system (1)

Posted by admin on September 18th, 2009 and filed under the perfect car audio system | 25 Comments »

These are just some clips of my system performing at about 85%, except for the last clip. The camera/microphone puts up with the volume very well but it’s not perfect, and can’t decipher very low bass (below 45hz). In the last clip, there seems to be large amounts of distortion or points where the sound is cutting out a little due to over whelming volume, but this is actually the nature of the track itself.

Most of the tracks from any of my videos can or will soon be found in my Youtube channel, so have a look if you want to hear the tracks again.

As I get asked these questions a lot, I’ll give you a quick summary to save some comment spaces. Feel free to ask questions though, but if you ask one that’s already been answered here and I have to refer you, please bang your head against the nearest available desk, door or wall.

    Thanks. MFX150

    System Summary:

    * Watts RMS (including active subs) = 1550 (speakers) 1300 (amplifiers)

[MFX150 NOTE: That may look low to some car audio enthusiasts, but I can assure you I get a lot more satisfaction from this system than my car's system, not to mention astounding SQ. I only have one Kicker Solo Baric 15" L7 in my car, but it is leagues below my other gear]

    * Speaker Sizes = Four 1″ tweeter, Eight 6″ bass/mid bass, Four 7″ bass, Two 12″ Sub bass.

    * Frequency response = +/- 3db 30Khz – 32hz (speakers)
    +/- 6db 100hz – 14hz (subs)

    * System weight (speakers, subs and amps): 175kg

    * Sound system value, as new RRP prices: £7000-£7500 ($14000-$15000 USD)

There is a second version to this bass test, so please go and have a look at that if you liked this one.
